    Interuniversity Microelectronics Center (IMEC)
IMEC is a world-leading independent research center in nanoelectronics and nanotechnology. Its research focuses on the next generations of chips and systems, and on the enabling technologies for ambient intelligence. IMEC’s research bridges the gap between fundamental research at universities and technology development in industry. Its unique balance of processing and system know-how, intellectual property portfolio, state-of-the-art infrastructure and its strong network of companies, universities and research institutes worldwide position IMEC as a key partner for shaping technologies for future systems.

IMEC is headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, and has representatives in the US, China and Japan. Its staff of about 1400 people includes close to 500 industrial residents and guest researchers. In 2006, its revenues are estimated to be over EUR 200 million.

For further information on IMEC see: http://www.imec.be.

    European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC)

EPIC is the European photonics industry association. EPIC works with industries, universities, and the European Commission to build a more competitive photonics industrial sector in the European economic area, capable of both economic and technological growth in a highly competitive world-wide marketplace.

EPIC works with the European Commission to translate industry needs into research and development programmes. EPIC owns and maintains the Photonic Technologies Roadmap.

Membership of EPIC is open to companies, research institutes, universities, and financial partners (such as banks or venture capital organisations) having operations in the European economic area. This includes the countries of the European Community, the candidate countries, as well as all non-member European states like Switzerland.

For further information on EPIC see: http://www.epic-assoc.org/.

    Multitel
Multitel is a scientific technology Research Centre aimed at developing and implementing innovative projects in collaboration with local and international companies. Multitel’s multidisciplinary team includes engineers and technicians, as well as a sales structure.

Multitel's scientific skills include voice technologies, data fusion, optic fibre applications, image processing, and computer network management. Besides its Research & Development activities, Multitel offers services in optics and telecom, and in company computer networks.

For further information on Multitel see: http://www.multitel.be.

Haute Ecole Spécialisée de Suisse Occidentale (HES-SO)

The High specialized school of Western Switzerland (HES-SO) is a consortium of applied science universities that provides teaching in engineering, economics, design, healthcare, social sciences and music. Within HES-SO, HE-ARC is the centre for photonics engineering and works on optical applied research facilitating technology transfer between the academic world and industry.

One of the principal activities of HE-ARC is focused on optical technologies. This area is covered by three groups that work on micro-optics, optical communications and optical fibre metrology, and optical micro-machining in a clean-room environment.

For further information on Haute Ecole Spécialisée de Suisse Occidentale see: http://www.hes-so.ch.

    Wroclaw University of Technology (WUT)
WUT is a major Polish university providing skilled and creative engineers and scientist to national and European industry and academia. The University mission is fulfilled through a high standard of teaching and research, with significant research efforts in the fields of photonics. The scope ranges from basic research up to applied research and technology of photonic devices.

WUT is involved in teaching at graduate and PhD university levels and state-of-the-art research activities. Competencies that will be covered by the project participants include photonic device design and technology, laser research, optical fiber (including photonics), solid state light sources and detectors and planar integrated circuits.

For further information on Wroclaw University of Technology see: http://www.pwr.wroc.pl.

    Sagem Défense Sécurité (SAGEM DS)
SAGEM is the third largest European group in the defence and security electronics market, a world leader in fingerprint biometrics as well as a major actor in smart cards, secure terminals, avionics, on-board information systems for aircraft, navigation and optronics systems. SAGEM DS maintains a world-wide presence as part of the SAFRAN Group.

The know-how of the Thermal Imager Department of SAGEM in the manufacture of imaging systems guarantees within ACCORD industrial development of systems well-adapted to user needs. SAGEM DS experience can be applied in: operational requirement analysis, optronics equipment (especially photo detector evaluation, design and manufacturing), system integration and testing and TV and video systems.

    Scottish Optoelectronics Association (SOA)
The SOA is the Trade Association for Optoelectronics in Scotland and has the aim to promote the economic development and interests of the Scottish optoelectronics industrial and research community.

The SOA has four areas of operation: provision of strategic guidance to members, attraction of investment to the industry, supporting the growth of the industry and promotion of industry locally, nationally and internationally. The SOA runs networking meetings pulling together companies, universities, suppliers, end-users and those within the supply chain.

The SOA produces roadmaps in relevant technologies and operates a scheme called TTOM which funds feasibility studies by universities on behalf of SMEs with the objective technology transfer. The SOA is a Lead Partner in OptoCem.Net, the UK Optoelectronic Chemical Sensing Network, a Partner in the Photonics KTN, (both UK Government sponsored knowledge transfer programmes) and a Partner in EPISTEP (Enhanced Participation of SMEs in IST European Technology Platforms) a European ETI project.
